BVRLA Chief Executive Toby Poston comments: Two weeks in and 2026 is fully hitting its stride. While the year will be defined for many based on what happens with used electric vehicle depreciation, the wider picture remains as nuanced as ever.

Concerns over the fall-out from the incoming motor finance redress scheme, uncertainty over further ZEV Mandate reviews, the impact of eVED plans on confidence in the transition, a rising tax burden on business. The road ahead promises a host of twists and turns, as well as some outright hazards. As your association we are your radar. We are here to help make your path to growth as smooth as possible, while equipping you to navigate challenges as they arise.

Political and regulatory turbulence continue to create unclear waters at home, while our supply chain is threatened by unrest and uncertainty abroad. This is the reality our members are operating in, and precisely why the role of the BVRLA has never been more important.

Through our close ties with regulators, government departments and industry stakeholders, we are representing member needs and pushing for positive developments. In line with this, we are building our capacity to deliver the operational and administrative support that helps you day in, day out.

Our strategy is built around three core commitments: champion the sector, raise industry standards, and deliver tangible member value.

In a complex and often uncertain political environment, having a credible, authoritative voice in the corridors of power is essential. We continue to represent your views, share evidence-based insights, and seek to shape policy across critical areas such as decarbonisation, motor finance reform, customer care, and an increasingly complex regulatory landscape beyond. Our drive is to protect the sector’s ability to operate today, while influencing the conditions for growth tomorrow.

Raising industry standards underpins the long-term success of our sector. This year you will see improvements to our inspection programme, an expanded training calendar, new Learning Management System, and access to trusted third-party experts. All combine to support members in setting, and operating to, the highest level. As regulation tightens and scrutiny on our sector increases, strong standards are not a burden, they are a necessity and a competitive advantage.

Completing that picture is our drive to deliver every member greater value. This means more frequent member visits, more opportunities to engage, and more ways for you to provide feedback and actively participate in shaping the association’s direction. It means delivering valuable events that bring peers together to share insight and solutions, alongside deeper, accessible day-to-day support that reflects the real challenges members face.

You will see all of this and more come to light this year. The wheels are already in motion. The BVRLA is always moving, always improving.

The year ahead will not be without challenge, but as ever, it also brings opportunity. By working together, we will navigate through uncertainty to strengthen our sector and ensure we collectively thrive in 2026 and beyond.
